Continuing Education Training for KY Board of Pharmacy Approved Protocols

ESSENTIALS OF THE KY BOARD-AUTHORIZED TOBACCO CESSATION PROTOCOL

As a result of newly approved regulation (201 KAR 2:380), pharmacists in Kentucky can now initiate the dispensing of non-controlled medications and other professional services via a prescriber-approved board-authorized protocol. In an effort to transform and advance pharmacy within our state, this training module provides practicing pharmacists an overview of the KY board-authorized tobacco cessation protocol. This 1-hour interactive home-study module for pharmacists, in combination with the 3-hour live CE course Implementation Models and Skills Check for the KY Board-Authorized Tobacco Cessation Protocol, will satisfy the Kentucky Board of Pharmacy protocol training requirements. IMPLEMENTATION MODELS AND SKILLS CHECK FOR THE KY BOARD-AUTHORIZED TOBACCO CESSATATION PROTOCOL

In this 3-hour live session, pharmacists will explore how to 1) Screen patients to identify whether they are candidates for the pharmacist-directed tobacco cessation treatment; 2) Provide effective patient education regarding tobacco cessation therapies including motivation for quitting, drug information, nicotine withdrawal, and preventing relapse; 3) Recommend a nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) product considering patient-specific factors and preferences; and 4) Document tobacco cessation patient encounters. American Pharmacists Association Advanced Training Programs

IMMUNIZATION CERTIFICATION COURSE

APhA’s Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery certificate training program is based on national educational standards for immunization training from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This practice-based curriculum represents a fusion of science and clinical pharmacy. The program, which emphasizes a health care team approach, seeks to foster the implementation of interventions that will promote disease prevention and public health. The purpose of this certificate training program is to prepare pharmacists with comprehensive knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to provide immunization services to patients across the life span. DIABETES CERTIFICATION COURSE

The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) developed The Pharmacist and Patient-Centered Diabetes Care Certificate Training Program, an educational experience designed to equip pharmacists with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to provide effective, evidence-based diabetes care. The program provides comprehensive instruction in current diabetes concepts and standards of care and incorporates case studies and hands-on skills training focused on the situations most likely to be encountered—as well as the services most needed—in community and ambulatory care practice settings. Participants will gain experience evaluating and adjusting drug therapy regimens for patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, counseling patients about lifestyle interventions, analyzing and interpreting self-monitoring of blood glucose results, and assessing the overall health status of patients to identify needed monitoring and interventions. No upcoming courses are scheduled at this time.

MTM CERTIFICATION COURSE

APhA’s Delivering Medication Therapy Management Services certificate training program (4th Edition) presents a systematic approach for developing, implementing, delivering, and sustaining MTM services. It includes an overview of the marketplace for delivering MTM services, guidance for implementing MTM services in pharmacy practice, a review of the essential skills and knowledge needed for performing MTM successfully, and an organized process for identifying medication-related problems.  The purpose of this certificate training program is to prepare pharmacists to improve medication use through the delivery of MTM services in a variety of practice settings. No upcoming courses are scheduled at this time.

PGY1 Pharmacy Residency

Program Description: Sullivan University College of Pharmacy (SUCOP) is proud to offer a PGY1 Residency affiliated with The Center for Health & Wellness. This program has an emphasis on ambulatory care and academia, and will accept three (3) residents per year. The resident will practice with SUCOP faculty in their areas of expertise, as well as other community members dedicated to exceptional patient care.
