Event Overview

The theme of our 2015 Retreat is The ‘So What’ of Research—How You Can Create New Knowledge. On Friday, first year students will attend a new student orientation, and second year students have an opportunity to learn tips for successfully completing the comprehensive exam. We have an opportunity to network and get to know one another better at dinner on Friday evening.

Our Saturday sessions begin with breakfast mind mapping to help you generate ideas for scholarly research. This is an interactive session, so please bring your laptop and be prepared to practice mind mapping. Then, our PhD faculty and other staff members will offer sessions on conducting literature reviews, how find scholarly articles in our library databases, the nuts and bolts of the Institutional Review Board, working with SPSS, preparing for job interviews, and getting published or preparing to present at conferences. Saturday you have time on your own to tour our great city, socialize with one another, or just relax.

Sunday we offer our most requested session – Breakfast with Chancellor and President Sullivan. The Chancellor has asked for questions in advance. Please email those to Dr. Wilkin ( no later than Wednesday August 12 at 5:00 p.m. Finally, our last Sunday session is presented by some of our faculty who Chair dissertations. They will share with you their expectations to help you successfully navigate the dissertation process. We will wrap up no later than noon on Sunday.

As you can see, we have a full weekend of learning and networking. I look forward to seeing you all there!
